OVERVIEW

Here is where I will depict all research and work related learning that I accomplish during this module. This will include YouTube tutorials that I have watched and learnt from within the past few months to improve my own practice; link and references to books, podcasts and other material that I have researched and included in my learning; information, applications and feedback from internships, work experiences, etc. that I have applied for and any other extra learning outside of the main briefs.

Murlo Audio Visual Set @ Warehouse Project

Visiting a Warehouse Project event in Manchester I was able to view and film an audio visuals set by one of my favourite DJs – Murlo. The visuals for his set were perfectly synced with his music and I believe were made to resemble the trippy storyline of each track. The use of a thin piece of cloth between the projector and screen/backdrop projected a hologram-like effect with a slight delay which emphasises the trippy embodiment of the visuals.

Furthermore, the use of progressive strobe lighting (below) engages the audience with the intensity of the music whilst also adding a brighter, glowing effect immersing you into the hypnotic animation

Leeds Light Night

Keep Hush Internship

Keep Hush is a London-based members club and music platform that organise events, create merchandise and help creatives get discovered simultaneously. Mainly music orientated, the two owners keep friendships with all members and are appreciative of all support and give back by publicising people’s work, music, etc. Their work ethic and attitude is something I aspire too so I applied for their internship.

Unfortunately I was unable to secure the place, however, the founder gave good feedback and offered the opportunity to reach out again at a later date with the potential of working with them then.

Livity Residency

Applied to a paid programme that were looking for a group of six creatives (found this opportunity through Keep Hush’s weekly email). Completed their application/survey online

WAVE Mag Internship/Work Experience

3D Design

Attempting to practice my skills with 3D design, I purchased Abstracpack, a 3D model kit created by designers for designers. This offers a large amount of free models to play around with; ideal for me, looking to practice 3D composition too.

Experimenting with pre-existing models included in the AbstracPack, I developed some abstract compositions within Cinema4D, using detailed materials to bring my vision to life, editing them further in Photoshop to develop the highlights and shadows as the lighting setup I used within C4D isn’t very intense. I’ve found it’s better to work this way in C4D as if the lighting is too intense, much like photography, it becomes harder to edit – it is easier to brighten a dark photo than darken an overly bright photo.

Making the experiments more relevant, I decided to create a path that was useable within C4D of my own logo, creating contemporary, new designs that may be used in the future of Gemini Branding.
