Identifying myself as a graphic designer, my main creative focus centres around corporate communications, branding, and publications across print and digital, and often through creating 3D design assets and applying motion graphics. I enjoy creating visual identities for clients that are conceptually led and visually well executed. While I do believe these are where my main design skills lie, I can also create design responses to briefs which exist in other creative contexts. For example, having gained valuable work experience in the film documentary industry as well as fashion communication and design, I enjoy the freedom to grow and develop as a creative.
While creative freedom and growth is at the forefront of my practice, I still take note of the need to maintain economic stability throughout my profession. Opportunities I have created for myself, like my internship at Cube Design, has developed my understanding for economic awareness and sustainability within my practice. The relationship between financial stability and the process for creating have to work hand in hand for me to be able to continue working in my discipline successfully. I maintain that constant through freelance projects and my personal project, Gemini Branding.
During the summer break, as my trip to Yaly Couture in Vietnam unfortunately fell through, I aim to obtain more work experience at graphic design firms and other relevant industry practices such a D-Studio in London. In addition to this, I will attempt to maintain a constant work flow, producing work on a more regular basis. This is in order to help my illustrative side of work, hoping to develop my own, recognisable style of illustration as this is a vital aspect of producing work, creating an audience and becoming a more successful artist as a whole.
Social media such as Instagram has rapidly become one of the best platforms to present your work and create and audience and grow as an artist/designer. Therefore, I have decided to create my own personal work account, aside from my Gemini Branding account. This allows me to demonstrate smaller pieces of work and keep an audience up to date with processes, development and other pieces that otherwise might not get seen. (@noodles.ai)
Visiting the private viewing of the undergraduate show, Lucy Seymour’s impressive work with Cinema 4D stood out to me. As a program I have worked with previously I decided to research how to take it further, finding more software such as X Particles and Cycles 4D, created by Insydium LTD. This software helps create more photo-realistic models, motion and textures and is something I will incorporate in my experimentation work for Level 6. As motion graphics is an integral part of advertising, promotion and branding it will prove to be an important aspect of my practice and skills will be transferrable to industry.
